Transportation is one of Metro Hartford's prime assets, attracting business, promoting economic development and easing residents' commuting and travel. Two interstate highways intersect in the region: north-south Interstate-91, and east-west Interstate-84. These routes provide connections with the Connecticut and Massachusetts turnpikes and a network of other roads and highways.
Bradley International Airport www.bradleyairport.com is just 12 miles north of Hartford and is the state's largest air facility, and the second busiest in New England.
Hartford's Union Station Transportation Center, a century-old brownstone structure restored to its original beauty, serves as the region's central rail and bus station. Taxi and airport limousine service is also offered from the center. Amtrak operates passenger service to major points throughout the country, including New York, Washington, and Boston, and several interstate bus companies provide long-distance passenger service.
