Traffic Advisory for Oct. 19, 2007
UCONN Football Game

I-91, I-84, Rt. 5/15, Rt. 2
& East Hartford Area

In anticipation of two large scale events that will be occurring simultaneously on Oct. 19, 2007, on or near Rentschler Field, the Connecticut State Police is working with other State and Local Agencies to try to avoid unnecessary traffic delays in the greater East Hartford region. During the afternoon/evening hours of Oct. 19, 2007 there is a scheduled UConn Football game at Rentschler Field and at the same time there is a soft opening of a large sporting goods store on the properties adjacent to Rentschler Field. Both events will draw large crowds and traffic is expected to be extremely heavy.

In addition to the regular complement of State Police Troopers and East Hartford Police for all events that take place at Rentschler Field, additional police resources will be added to further assist with the anticipated increased flow of traffic and/or to intervene in cases of disruption to the traffic flow due to disabled cars or accidents.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation will post signs to give detailed traffic information to motorists. Highly visible overhead highway message boards and other signs will alert all motorists to expected and ongoing traffic problems.

The Connecticut State Police and the East Hartford Police will initiate a joint effort of police services in the area early on Oct. 19th to accommodate the movement of the anticipated heavy traffic and calls for police services in the area.

The purpose of this advisory and all announcements regarding the expected heavy traffic increase on October 19th is to notify the public that motorists should adjust their travel plans accordingly. Anticipate heavy traffic and plan to arrive at Rentschler Field early. Everyone should anticipate traffic problems; if possible, carpool with a group, plan to arrive early and be prepared for heavy traffic and traffic delays.
